Staying Motivated in a Weight Loss Program

Obesity and over-weight is not a problem typical to this country. It is a global phenomenon which is causing concern at all levels of society. Being obese or over-weight does not only involve several physical degenerative conditions like heart attack, diabetes, etc but can seriously impact the mind too. Chances are high that an obese individual would have low levels of self-esteem, social behavioral problems, insomnia, and depression to name only a few.

We all know that losing weight is possible through a weight loss program. But we also know that it is easier said than done as remaining on a weight loss diet can be extremely difficult for many. When you are not allowed to have your favorite chocolate, pastries, and doughnuts or munch that delicious chunk of beef or pork, life can be completely meaningless. Did you know that it is all in the mind? We do not seem to realize it but motivation is all that you need to remain and continue your weight loss program.

Over and above the diet program, all weight loss programs would also include a physical exercise routine. This is also found to be difficult as many people have problems joining a gym or even go for a brisk walk. Here are some suggestions to help you continue and remain motivated during your weight loss program:

Be realistic in your approach: If you are aiming to lose 20 pounds in 2 weeks flat, you would soon get de-motivated as this goal can not be reached. Remember weight loss takes place in its own pace and hurrying it can not solve your problem, except that it would leave you disgusted and frustrated with your efforts.

Set achievable goals: If you set small and achievable goals you would naturally remain motivated when you see visible results. So to begin with, set weekly and fortnightly goals of weight loss. Then there is time to set monthly and even quarterly goals. But all goals must be small, practical and achievable.

Rope in a friend: Participating in a weight loss program with a companion or a friend always help as when there are two people who have the same objective, they can motivate each other through the process. The important thing here is that you can exchange feedback, exchange dos and don’ts and learn from each other’s experiences.

Follow your mind: Every person has his likes and dislikes and strengths and weaknesses. So if you like chocolate dessert which is a food you are not supposed to have, you could replace it with a dish of your favorite fruits or salads. This way you can control your craving and at the same time remain satisfied and motivated.

Reward yourself: Most often we forget to reward ourselves when we do a job well. Succeeding in weight loss programs is no exception. So when you find you have achieved your weight loss goal for 2 consecutive weeks, take some time off and visit a spa or a parlor to relax and rejuvenate yourself. Go and visit a place where your mind is relaxed and calmed. This way you would feel motivated and recharged when you get back to your weight loss program.

In a weight loss program, nothing motivates an individual more than to see a couple of kilos evaporating during the early days of the process. Try and remain motivated as it would ultimately stimulate your mind and you can pass through the process with ease and comfort. Think positive and go on giving yourself some form of reward every time you see yourself doing a great job. You deserve it, as you are worth it.
