FAQ of
Colon Hydrotherapy
There is always a nagging doubt about the safety of colon
hydrotherapy. If the equipment used is FDA approved and all
materials disposable, then there is no risk of any infection.
This treatment option is safer than the commonplace enema. Here
are answers to some frequently asked questions:
How does colon hydrotherapy compare with an enema?
According to Dr. Norman Walker, “One colonic is equivalent to 30
enemas.” This is because an enema washes only the lower part of
the colon whereas colon hydrotherapy bathes the entire stretch of
the colon.
Would I be still constipated even after 1, 2 or 3 bowel movements
in a day?
Yes it is possible that you are still constipated, since
accumulated waste matter, mucous and gas can obstruct the normal
passage which results in incomplete and frequent bowel movements.
This accumulated waster, over a period of time can cause a host of
gastric problems as well as can affect the whole body.
How many times Colon Hydrotherapy is normally recommended?
This would largely depend on the individual condition of the
patient. There are instances when the waste matter has hardened to
such an extent that it requires a series of interventions to
soften the stool and make it come out. This is done by using
colonics which also stimulate the liver, kidney and the lymphatic
system. According to Body Basic recommendations, you would need a
minimum of four sessions during your first hydrotherapy session.
Is colon hydrotherapy a painful treatment?
This is not a painful procedure, especially when done by our fully
trained and certified hydro-therapists. The treatment would leave
you relaxed and refreshed.
Is Colon Hydrotherapy habit-forming?
This is a colon cleansing process which is not habit forming. It
is aimed to relax and recharge the colon to enhance peristalsis.
It is impossible for the colon to heal when it is working
continuously to cleanse the system to get rid of the toxins, gases
and solid wastes.
What length of the intestines is cleansed with Colon Hydrotherapy?
Our colon hydrotherapy treatment involves washing the entire
length of the colon, which is about five and a half feet. The
small intestines can not be cleansed as it operates through a ‘one
way door’ called the ileocecal valve which restricts water or
waste matter to move up. So the waste build up in the small
intestines is cleared by the use of oral nutritional supplements
which are part of the series of colon cleansing procedure.
Should I consult my doctor before having Colon Hydrotherapy?
Of course in case of an organic problem it is wise to consult a
doctor but an internal examination is normally not needed. Colon
hydrotherapy is considered a safer option than home enemas. At
Body Basics only the most modern equipment is used which only
certified and specialist colon therapists administer.
Does menstruation have any impact at the time of colon
hydrotherapy?
It is considered a better time to have the colon hydrotherapy when
you are menstruating as the body is in the process of cleansing it
self in any case. The colon cleansing does not in any way affect
the menstrual flow. On the contrary, the flushing out of the colon
would reduce the abdominal pressure associated with menstruation.
What are the preparatory steps before Colon Hydrotherapy?
We usually recommend a diet of fresh fruits and vegetables the day
before the appointment. You must also drink 8 to 10 glasses of
water everyday. Eating two hours before the appointment time,
carbonated drinks are recommended to be avoided as they add to gas
formation in the colon. All you need is to relax and come for your
appointment in a happy and positive frame of mind.
What is the normal duration of the treatment?
A normal colon hydrotherapy treatment usually lasts for about 30
to 45 minutes. You must however plan for an hours’ stay before you
resume your normal activities.
What about intestinal discomfort or lethargy after the cleansing?
Though there is no pronounced abdominal discomfort in the process,
but since a lot of old waste materials and debris are being taken
out in the cleansing process, there could be a temporary healing
crisis. In case this happens, you need to take some rest and you
can come back to normal health in 24 hours.
Will Colon Hydrotherapy damage normal intestinal flora?
Waste material accumulated over a long period of time prevents
glands from producing necessary amounts of intestinal flora,
resulting in repeated constipation. Colon hydrotherapy restores
the balance of intestinal flora while inhibiting the proliferation
of disease-causing bacteria. A probiotic implant is sometimes used
to induce good bacteria in to the colon. This can also be achieved
by ingestion of acidophilus medications.
